Kelva Beach, Palghar

Kelwa beach - sometimes also known as Kelva or Kelwe beach is a pristine stretch of sea shore and a popular weekend getaway for tourists from Mumbai and nearby. The beach is about 8 km. wide long. It has the largest stretch of beautiful cost line of Arabian Sea in Thane District. The unique feature of the beach is the abundance of the Suru trees.
Now Kelva is a become very famous tourist attraction, the beach is overcrowded with local tourists during weekends which indicates its growing popularity.
Location - 
Kelwa Beach is situated about 80 kilometres north off Mumbai. From NH 8 there are two ways to reach here, one is from Varai phata 32 KM, and other from Mastan Naka (Manor) 34 Km. It is easily accessible from the Kelve Road station situated about 5 kilometres away. It is also a 25 minute ride on an 8 seater Rickshaw from Palghar railway station.
Kelwa Beach is also connected by State Transport buses which make frequent trips from Palghar or Saphale & Kelwa Road Station. Location Map is also available with this Blog.

Surroundings -
The Shitla Devi Temple, a Hindu temple is situated just besides the beach. It is believed that the two sons of Lord Ram, Luv and Kush grew here when Sita was in exile for the second time, A Hanuman Temple is also there. One small Lake is opposite to temple called Ramkund.
There are in all three forts on this beach. One is at the southern tip of the beach and is submerged in sea water during high tides. The smaller one, is located within the coniferous trees near the northern tip on the beach.
The most important and traditional mean of earning is cultivation of "Panmala"(Bettle leaves). The community which cultivates the mala's are popularly known as VADVALs (Person who cultivates vadis)
The residents of Kelwa beach are involved in the fishing industry due to the proximity of Satpati, Maharashtra's biggest fishing centre . Some people work in factories in the nearby industrial areas of Palghar and Tarapur.some people own the factories as well. Some people are also involved in the Tourism industry due to the growing popularity of the beach. Many restaurants and snack joints have come up near the beach to cater to the growing number of tourists.

You can find many numbers of Resorts for Over night stay and relax with Family & Friends, other local food stall are also available near Beach side, some local hawkers are selling Tad Golas, (a fruit from Palm (TAD) Trees), Coconut Water, local fruits like Banana, Sapota (Chiku), Red Berrys, Ice Gola, Bhelpuri, Panipuri and lots of other stuff. Parking Facility is also available near beach side.
Fun -
Enjoy wide beach with Horse cart, Camel Ride, Para Gliding (Rs. 300/- Per Person) A small Children Park Near Shitladevi Temple and other fun activity.

While Going towards home (Mumbai) I took Manor Rout because while crossing the Ghat there is place called Waghoba Khind is on the way, certified as Tourist Place Govt. of Maharashtra,  on top of the ghat there is on temple of Waghoba a god of local tribal people, while monsoon a very beautiful climet is created here, nice Water falls falling down on just road touch. you must visit this place during monsoon to enjoy real beauty of nature. Devbaug Beach, Tarkarli, Malvan


Tarkarli  is a village in Malvan Taluka, district Sindhudurg. It is now become Tourist Destination in Coastal Maharashtra, an attractive beach. From there, one can see the famous naval fort Sindhudurg built by Shivaji Maharaj. This village is famous for its Ramnavmi Utsav. Here in Mapurush Temple the celebration of Ramnavmi is arranged every year. To mark this occasion there are various dramas (Marathi Natak) are arranged. Water sports Activities are also available on beach like Scuba Diving and snorkeling, water ski, boat ride, Dolphin ride and much more.

This place has gained prominence because of its long and narrow stretch of beach with pristine waters. On a fairly clear day, one can see the bed unto a depth of 20 ft. It presents a panoramic view with tall 'Shuru' trees in the background. The wide river, the beautiful sailboats and the tiny wonderful islands hamlets situated on the riverbank, add to the picturesque beauty of Tarkarli. Sighting dolphins is not a rare event here. This place fishes throughout the year, the sea during summer and winter and back-waters during the monsoon since the sea water enters this area and also due to safety reasons.

Devbagh is a small fishing village based on a thin strip of land with Karli river backwaters on one side and Arabian sea on the other. Devbagh beach is adjacent to Tarkarli beach and ends at Devbagh sangam. It is easily accessed by the Malvan-Tarkarli road.

Devbagh beach is less crowded even during high tourist season and attacts tourist looking for peace and nature. some good resorts are also available for stay with your family for more details click here. other then that some local villagers are also allow tourists to stay with them as a paying guest, this is also a nice experience to enjoy local life and food with them.


Tarkarli is situated 8 KM south of Malvan and 546 KM from Mumbai on the west coast of India, at the confluence of the Karli River and the Arabian Sea.

How to reach

By Air: Nearest airport is Dabolim (Goa).

By Rail: Following options exist:

Sindhudurg, but all trains don't stop there and also connectivity by means of bus and rickshaw are not very good.

Kudal on the Konkan Railway. This is around 1 hour 15 minutes by road from Malvan. Buses are available from and to Malvan after every 30 minutes. Frequency is slow in the evening.

Kankavli on the Konkan Railway. This is around 1 hour 30 minutes by road from Malvan. Buses are available from and to Malvan after every 30 minutes. Frequency is slow in the evening.

By Road: Tarkarli is easily accessible from Malvan by bus and rickshaw. Tarkarli is 475 KM (Panvel Kochi Road, NH 17) and 576 KM (Mumbai Kolhapur Road NH 4) away from Mumbai. Daily private, luxury and State Transport bus service are available from various parts of Goa, Mumbai and Pune to Malvan.

Natural Hot Water Springs - Varai Sativali

Natural Hot Water Springs at varai Sativali is a great one day picnic spot to enjoy with your Family & Friends, 

How to reach : 

on Vasai - Manor Highway (NH-8) after Varai - Safale Phata a Small Road from Left side is going towards this Place. watch for sign board on Highway.There is one Jain temple is also located near this site. you must need your privet vehicle for this destination.

This place is managed by Shri Shankar Mandir Trust, the pool with hot, clean natural water pool for Man and covered pool for woman. nearby there is a small river bank also, but water is in this river is around monsoon season only. Carry your food with you as there is only one small hotel, where u find Vada Pav, Cold drinks, Water and Biscuit only. but very nice place to relax with Nature. 

Best time to visit : 

July to Dec to enjoy river, other then that you can visit full year.
